Both emission and absorption techniques have been developed at the AILES beamline of SOLEIL synchrotron to record far infrared (FIR) spectra of transient species. To illustrate the possibilities offered by our absorption set-up, we report in this paper new rotational transitions of the SO radical falling in the spectral range covered by the HIFI spectrometer onboard Herschel.
