The objective of this paper is to briefly present the future spaceborne missions embarking visible and infrared instruments. We will do this through the ESA Cosmic Vision program which addresses the main questions that are high on the agenda of research across Europe (and, indeed worldwide) concerning the Universe and our place in it. This paper doesn't take into account planetary exploration missions.
